What happens during the the first 1:1 session?

During the first 1:1 session the instructor will complete a variety of quick assessments with the student. These assessments will be used to determine what gaps there are in their understanding of the concepts and decide what the next steps will be.  Completing these assessments allows the instructor to individualize the lessons to meet each student’s specific learning needs.

Why do I need a Tutorbird login?

Tutorbird is the management software we utilize to ensure our students are getting the most from their experience with Coziplans. Through Tutorbird students have access to their schedule, news, lesson notes, Coziplans teaching resources and a streamlined payment process.

What program do you use for the online sessions?

We use Zoom for our online sessions.

Do the STEAM workshops use any special software or tools?

Each workshop will list the recommended software and tools to have on hand specific to the topics being covered. Popular tools in the industry include the Unity, Unreal and Godot game engines, 3DS Max, Maya, Zbrush or Blender for 3D modeling tools, and Photoshop, Illustrator, Photopea or Inkscape for 2D graphic design tools. Check with the workshop’s instructor before the first session to confirm the most recent versions of software or tools being used.

What are the components of the Science of Reading?

Our literacy tutoring includes tutoring in the components of the Science of Reading. These include phonemic awareness, phonics and spelling, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.

What materials will students need for a literacy tutoring session?

Ideally the student will have a device that allows them to interact with the tutor through Zoom.  Some tablets and phones have reduced functionality that will keep students from utilizing some of the features that will be used. Additionally, the student should have paper and pencil on hand for those times when the technology isn’t working the way it should.  They will also be using paper, pencil, and scissors to make word cards that can then be used to play games at home.  Other materials may also be requested as needed.

Do I need to be sitting with my student during literacy tutoring sessions?

No, you do not have to sit with your student during the tutoring session.  However, you are always welcome to sit in on a session to see how the activities work.  This will allow you to work with them on the skills between sessions.

Why are all the lessons through Coziplans pre-pay?

A lot of work goes into ensuring the student has the most engaging and productive experience possible. Pre-paying for lessons allows Coziplans to ensure the instructors availability and commitment while also providing a structured learning experience for the student.
